Tuesday Tennis Tips: Poaching Exercise

Here's a fun poaching exercise I use with many of my clients trying to improve their doubles pacohing. As Coach Steve and Michaela help me demonstrate, the net player should be moving quickly between three positions that make a triangle shape. Think of it like a traffic light.

Position #1 Yellow Star (Get ready) Stand in this position when your partner is serving or when the baseline opponent is going to hit the next ball

Position #2 Green Star (Attach/Poach) Take off to this position when the baseline opponents head goes down to hit the ball

Position #3 Red Star (Defend) Be here when you can't poach & your partner is hitting the ball. Help defend the center of the court

Try to adopt this movement pattern and you will be more effective at poaching and a more valuable doubles partner!
